Check out www.peaceplease.com; they are organizing a mass protest on March 20th to bring attention to the cost of the Iraq and Afghan wars. Just remember: the $960 billion dollars spent in Iraq is a hefty chunk of change. Makes you wonder what our country would look like if we had spent it on something else.

Current Conflicts

Our research has told us that there are several NGOs already in place in Israel working to bring an end to this conflict. They primarily hold conferences between Arabs and Jews in order to bring dialogue to the discrimination against one another. Ultimately it appears, as they have not gotten very far due to their lack of support from the outside world, which appears to have written off this conflict as religious ranting. It is clear that both sides are fighting for a single piece of land, which is deemed holly and therefore a large asset which can not be moved, changed, or rebuilt.    more >>

A Little Context

It's become apparent in our research that a robust non-violent movement on the part of BOTH Palestinians, and Israelis is key to breaking the cycle of violence. Sheikh Tahir ul-Qadri, a Pakastani born Sheikh who now resides in England, issued a fatwa against acts of terrorism. His fatwa (a religious ruling based on Islamic law and the Koran) is the most comprehensive and expansive commentary on the matter. He is hoping this will set a new precedent to allow other Islamic leaders to condem violence and terrosrism. Read more at http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/sheikh-issues-fatwa-again...

I am hesitating on taking the pledge. Why? I'm pausing on the idea that "I" whatever that is, can create/control (interesting how "create" can be synonymous to "control," isn't it?) something that involves and requires 6 billion other people. One of Byron Katie's best questions is "Whose business am I in when I think that thought?" There seem to be 3 kinds of business: God/the Universe/Nature/whatever you call it, Someone Else's, and Mine. The deeper I go, the less of *anything* is my business in the slightest.    more >>
