Praise for Peaceworthy Diplomacy

I wrote a message to President Obama today in praise of his diplomacy, which is making us safer for a LOT less money and time than mostly counterproductive war efforts.

Dear President Obama,

Russia's support on preventing nuclear proliferation in Iran in recent U.N. speeches by President Medvedev is very welcome.

I know that your administration was criticized publicly in various quarters for giving up the Polish anti-missile defense system without receiving anything in return. I guess now that you got increased Russian cooperation on containing the nuclear ambitions of Iran.

Although I am not privy to the intelligence and details, if I am right about this, I feel you made a wise and strategic move in giving up the Polish missile defense system in favor of cooperation from Russia on Iran. The world is a safer and better place for NOT building a provocative, expensive and likely non-functional remote land-based missile defense system, and for drawing Russia into dignified cooperation on the critical nuclear non-proliferation issue. You have also chosen to cooperate with Russia on a issue which is greatly in their interests, as having a nuclear-armed Iran in one's backyard seems highly dangerous.

As you work further on this issue, please do everything in your power to have the Russians dismantle the "dead hand" Perimeter doomsday system, which could send nuclear missiles toward the USA in the event of an Iranian attack on Russia, thereby destroying the world as we know it. An unstable Iran may see attacking Russia and triggering the Perimeter system as a way to attack the USA using Russia's missiles.

From my point of view, creating a safe and prosperous world through the spread of security, free trade and human rights is the best health care system we could have. Government health insurance doesn't mean a whole lot under a mushroom cloud.

Sincerely,

Nathan Otto
