Bad People

We often hear that because of "bad people"—warmongers, corporate bad guys, evil politicians, arms dealers, and so on—we will always have war.

There will probably always be criminals and people who do bad things. But individuals doing bad things is very different from war. War is organized and predictable. War is political. War requires the active collaboration and cooperation of people who are not generally evil. Therefore, we can build a global society in which the bad people are not able to make wars.

Just as we have a civil society with processes in place for catching and dealing with people who behave badly, so we can have a global society in which war is no longer possible.

Those people who in the past would have created wars, will no longer have the power to do so, for the same reason that politicans can no longer publicly flog people, support the slave trade, or offer up human death for entertainment. It's just not acceptable.

Let's end war now, without waiting to eliminate all the bad people.
