Poverty

Poverty, especially extreme poverty, is often seen as a cause or contributor to conflict. But, in fact, it is more often the other way around: war more often causes poverty.

Extremely poor people want to have food, shelter, and clothing. They are generally not concerned with creating war. War in very poor countries usually comes about when there is an outside source of financing, like a natural resource or political patronage, that finances the violent conflict.

P:5Y believes that extreme poverty ought to be relieved through global action—both now and in the future—with a goal of solving poverty permanently. We believe that abolishing war would create a much greater opportunity to solve the poverty problem.
